I grew up in the '80s. And, along with the bad perm my mother should have never let me have, there were a few things I still love: colored denim (already back), off-the-shoulder tops (now being done in a more sophisticated way) and neon.
Oh, NEON.
How I love your vibrant hue. How I get giddy at the sight of a fluorescent marker or a bottle of shocking pink polish. And, even though, sweet neon, you have recently made your way back into the arms of fashion, I have never let you out of mine. I have consistently parlayed you into my life, albeit in quiet (dare I use this word in the same sentence as you) ways, with an electric green coin purse tucked inside my satchel or with fluro orange toes peaking out of my summer sandals.
But I am so very happy you are back and even happier that fashion line Eternal Child has chosen you to accent some of their key spring pieces. They have managed to make you new, sophisticated and, most importantly, unexpected. I love the gold thread twinset (eek, another '80s word) with the hint of neon yellow/green on the inside of the cardi and striped across the bust of the tank.
It is beautiful and genius and wearable for a woman of any age.

And you thought neon was just for kids...

My New Year's Resolution...To Blog (Again and Often)

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION:

1) I will resume my gretta sloane blog and I will post often.
2) I will share my thoughts about fashion, trends and what is happening at Gretta
3) I will leave you, my reader, hungry for more, and, more importantly, wanting to shop.
4) Amendment to #3: I will leave you wanting to not just shop, but to shop at Gretta (and who wouldn't...seriously)
5) And to help you successfully achieve #4, please prepare yourself and your spring shopping budget for

wait for it...

http://www.grettasloane.com/

that's right people, all things gretta will soon be one click away. I begin with a quick flip-through and then retrace my steps numerous times until I have read each department and every feature. I look for jewels of information, fashion tid-bits and fabulous photos of models wearing our labels. This time as I breezed through March's Elle, I couldn't help but notice a story on one of Gretta's latest and greatest finds: Ian.

We have only gotten the first delivery, but, oh, how I love Ian. I can already tell this is a love that will last forever. The clean lines, the wearable sophistication and the paired-down color palette make Ian's pieces key. One of my faves? The black mesh cardi that captures this season's utilitarian vibe but with more gusto. Try it with a white tank and black pants or throw it over a dress. It is a must-have...

I'm Back....and so is Spring

I know; I know. You don't have to tell me-I get it. I understand. I've been gone...for awhile, a long while, so long, in fact that the last time we spoke the intensity of the holiday season was just gaining momentum and now all of those fesitivities and the sequined leggings that went with them are but a distant memory.

But, on the upside, Spring 2010 is upon us. Now please don't go and look out of your chilled, fogged-up window at the icy patches on your sidewalk and furrow your brow at this statement. What I mean to say is that spring 2010 fashion is upon us and with a vengeance. And, with it, comes new silhouettes, an updated color palette, and a fresh crop of pieces from designers we have always loved and some with which we have just begun to flirt. Our energy is renewed at Gretta Sloane so stay tuned for our picks of the season.

Oh, and one more thing, before you scoff at the idea of changing over your closet to warm-weather wear and adding a pair of slouchy cargo pants in army green or a sleek mesh cardigan, please note: all proper fashionistas start their spring buy in January when the first delivery hits and you have your pick of the litter.

So meow...it's spring.

When Opening Ceremony Met Pendleton...

No one could have predicted this union but I guess opposites do indeed attract. When Opening Ceremony, a very on trend showroom as well as clothing label, asked Pendleton to lend its heavy, brightly colored navajo blankets to some signature pieces for Fall 09, I paused and wondered how that would work. Could Pendleton measure up to Opening Ceremony? And could Opening Ceremony bring Pendleton back from wherever it had been? The answer to both questions is a resounding YES!
And the pieces they have created together are worthy of blogging. Picture OC's classic short-sleeved flare coat in black navajo (shown). And who can resist the mini in off-white, orange and tan that would look the absolute best paired with a chunky turtleneck sweater and flat boots. The sight of each piece makes me want to forget my cares, run off to Santa Fe and sip hot chocolate laced with chili pepper, while shopping for turquoise, of course.
Please be advised that if you can't fathom another day without one of the OC/Pendleton pieces, this merger isn't forever and will probably sell out before the first snow fall so act swiftly.
A warning: Keep the rest of your outfit rather plain and your accessories to a minimum, these pieces speak for themselves. Actually they yell.

Forget The Rest...I'll Take Tom Binns

I'm tired, worn slick and basically pressing my mental snooze bottom each time I see another designer's same but different but, who we kidding, same take on this season's statement jewelry piece. How I love them. Let me count the ways. I love that they are not the typical motorcycle variety adorned with silver studs and black leather. I love that leggings and dresses will look better when paired with them. I love that they are conservative and on trend and wearable and sophisticated without even trying to be any of those things. I love that they make me think me of riding a horse through the English countryside simply by looking at them. It's about time, right? I need to stop proscratinating and introuduce myself properly so that if you happen to accidentally stumble across this blog, you will purposefully come back-and often.

I am Gretta Sloane (I'm saying this sentence aloud as I am writing it with a tone that lingers somewhere in the realm of "I am your father, Dr. Evil" from that epic motion picture, Austin Powers).

Without an intention to dramatize, before I tell you why I decided to blog, I must tell you a bit more about myself, albeit quickly, so I can get to the fun stuff as opposed to making you rue the day you accidentally stumbled across this blog.

So here goes it. I, Gretta, moved back to my hometown of Oklahoma City (yes, that's in Oklahoma) after a long and exhaustive stint in New York where I worked in the fashion industry toiling over the latest trends and finding a new and exciting way to describe that scarf that looked oddly similar to one I described last year.

I went to New York appreciating fashion, but, it wasn't long before I was a hopeless romantic beaming each time I sauntered past those inconic Barney's windows and counting the days until its warehouse sale. But, as passionately as I had fallen in love with fashion, I couldn't say that my feelings for New York traffic ran that deep. I also must say that the sound of sirens and beeping horns that seemed to go on forever did little to lull me to sleep each night in my downtown loft. I love New York all the same but needed a therapeutic change.

So I moved home, anxious to reconnect to the midwest and be within arm's length of my family. And, even though, being able to get basically anywhere within 10 minutes and not having to hail a cab or walk down a steep flight of concrete stairs to board a subway made me giddy, I became weapy each time I thought about how much I missed my true love, fashion.

I have since done something about it. I opened my own boutique, my sanctuary, my little slice of New York right here in Oklahoma. I have filled it to the brim with pieces from some of my favorite designers, which hang in a space reminiscent of my downtown loft. Tear. Sigh. Smile.

So come with me as I wax poetic about each season's latest and greatest, inspiring you to love each piece as much as I do to the point where you will be able to introduce them into your wardrobe with confidence.

Let's get started...

Brands

Alexander Wang, Vena Cava, T by Alexander Wang, Inhabit, Lutz & Patmos, Hanii Y, Lorick, Rag & Bone, Rachel Comey, Isabel Marant, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent, Paul & Joe Sister, Epice, Ginette, Humanoid, Park Vogel, Organic by John Patrick, Brochu Walker, Karen Walker, Clu and more...

About

I, Gretta Sloane am more than just a stylish woman, I am also the embodiment of my boutique of the same name. In it, you find a well edited selection of some of today's best designers. My goal is to introduce you to each season's best pieces, show you how to wear them and give you fashion tips and advice that comes with having a trained fashion eye. I will reveal what I see when I look at a great piece of clothing or accessory Through me, you will learn the must-haves for each season as well as how to pick which items are best for you while eliminating what I call "fashion noise" or things you may skip depending on your age, needs, style and body type. I encourage you to send photos, ask questions and stop being afraid of fashion.

Contact

6476 Avondale Dive
Oklahoma City, OK 73116
grettasloane@gmail.com
Follow us on facebook
